14th Annual Macy’s Petacular New York City

This past weekend Macy’s held their 14th annual Spring/Easter Petacular at their flagship store in Herald Square New York City. The costumed contestants ranged from a Hamster to a Parrot and over 100 dogs and cats.
The PupStyle crew was in full force with Emmet and MeiMei decked out in beautiful flower costumes (a last-minute late-night DIY project by PupStyle editor Carlene Mahanna). Their outfits were so awesome that the NY Daily News snapped their pics and declared their style on par with Lady Gaga. (High praise indeed!)

Super celebrity groomer Jorge Bendersky’s doggie Tito was in FULL effect and loving it!

A brilliant and super simple idea garnered this pup a place on the costume contest podium!

10 yr old Sussex Spaniel “Stump” takes home the Best in Show honors at Westminster 2009

Stumpy, Stocky and Low to the Ground Sweeps up at Westminster. This year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was filled with excitement and controversy. For the first time the newly admitted breed of Dogue de Bordeaux was seen walking the green carpet in MSG. There was also some confusion and controversy over the disqualification of a Cairn Terrier just as it was about to be judged (it was later found out that the judge and the handler had worked together – therein disqualifying the dog due to a conflict of interest).

In the end the overall Best in Show award was taken home by “Stump” the Sussex Spaniel. At 10 years old Stump is the oldest winner of Best in Show in the 133 year history of the Westminster Dog Show.

After waddling his way to the Best in Show podium – it sounds like Stump will be getting some extra Valentine’s Day spoiling. We’d suggest his handler check out Dara’s Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for some ideas!

CRYSTALLIZED/FIT Student Design Winner Crowned

Pet Fashion Week’s recent runway show opened with a sneak peek into the future of pet fashion design.
Three outstanding designs created by students from the Fashion Institute of Technology walked the runway to open this year’s show. In leading up to this – a FIT student pet design contest was presented by CRYSTALLIZED – Swarovski Elements – with 16 student designers being selected as finalists. Out of the round of 16 a panel of expert judges selected two runners up and one winner.

The runner-ups included: Sojung Leem for her sparkling, flat-backed crystal party dress and Emily Simpson for her creative, crystal transfabric carrying bag.

And the winner of the 2008 CRYSTALLIZED/FIT Student Pet Design Contest is Lyudmyla Muzyka for her beautiful sparkling dress and shirt. Lyudmyla received high marks for her creativity in employing the CRYSTALLIZED materials while balancing that with subtle coloring and unique styling. We look forward to seeing more designs and creativity from her as her career progresses. Check out the video below to see the runway presentation of these three talented designers.
