Happily Ever After Chair/Dog House

This is a very interesting looking piece of furniture – What is it? The Happily Ever After Chair was designed by Kim Hyun Joo as a way to blend a dog house and a chair into one piece that let’s both coexist in a small space. Made of cast resin with a fabric seat cushion this looks like a great way to pal around with your pooch during lazy weekends. The design was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award in 2008. For more information see the designer’s site – Kim Hyun Joo.

Room & Board four-legged bed for your four-legged friend

This lovely understated bed does not demand attention but serves as a comfy puppy repose that fits nicely into a well appointed room. The Schubert Large Pet Bed from Room & Board is constructed with a natural patinated steel frame and a Dorien (100% cotton stain-resistant material) bed cushion cover. The muted Oatmeal coloring of the cushion cover serves as a great neutral backdrop so that your dog stands out more than his bed. At 45″ x 30″ and 9 inches off the floor this bed is built for the larger dog but could serve as a perfect launch pad for your more Napoleonic breeds. The Schubert Large Pet Bed is available for $299.00 directly from the Room & Board site.

Slick printed leather furniture from Atelier Phillipe Coudray

Good luck keeping your pooch off the furniture! The latest line from furniture designer Maurice Renoma – pairs contemporary printing techniques with traditional french furniture designs. Simply supply Atelier de Tapisserie Decoration (ATAD) with a 300 dpi photo of your favorite pooch and they will print it on the upholstery per your specifications. While we are not so sure of the wisdom behind printing a chew toy on a piece of furniture (see Bulldog photo below) – it sure does look cool! The Renoma collection is designed in the tradition of classic “Louis XV” style with a wing-chair as well as an ottoman. For more information contact ATAD thru their website.

Danish designers The Pet Project offer combination pet room/end table

Keeping up with the new trend of designing dog products that mom and dad can share with pooch, Scandinavian inspired Pet Project has carefully designed a dog or cat “room” that can also double as a fine end table next to a couch or chair. Their whole product line carefully marries sleek minimalist design with function so you don’t have to shove that raggedy, old dog bed in the closet when hosting your next cocktail party. In fact, you could even serve up Martinis on top of this clever cube!
The exterior is made from finely grained Walnut and measures 22.8″ H x 17.7″ W x 19.7″ D. Priced at $650 and available at idChicago.

Super cool wooden dog bed from Holden Designs

A bed worthy of a God! If there were ever a design god in the dog furniture world, Jon Wesley Rahman, founder of Holden Designs, Inc. would be that deity. An architect and furniture designer by trade, he feels the same way we do about designing dog products that are pleasing for both pooch’s and people’s perspectives. This slice of tastiness is a work of art disguised as a dog bed. Made from bent plywood with a Walnut veneer it is ideal for small to medium size dogs. The only down side is that it does not come with a cushion. Their web site states that they offer a Cornflower Blue cushion, but we can’t seem to find it. Don’t sweat it, because it works oh so well with an IKEA sheep skin happy pad (not included but available at IKEA stores for around $20). Thanks to Holden Designs, we can all finally burn our dingy old dog beds and blankets and renew our dog’s sleeping quarters! The bed measures 27.25″ x 22″ W x 11″ H. Available from designpublic.com for $250
