It’s summertime again and that means it’s time for the 3rd annual Adoptapalooza in Washington Square Park in New York City. Come on down between 11am – 4pm with your adopting shoes on!
The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals will once again be hosting this super fun and very popular event. Local shelters will be on hand with adoptable pups and kitties to pull at your heart strings and our very own Dara Foster will be Emceeing the whole sheebang! Bring your own pups down to the park and have them run an agility course, stick around for giveaways and raffles too!
This past weekend Macy’s held their 14th annual Spring/Easter Petacular at their flagship store in Herald Square New York City. The costumed contestants ranged from a Hamster to a Parrot and over 100 dogs and cats.
The PupStyle crew was in full force with Emmet and MeiMei decked out in beautiful flower costumes (a last-minute late-night DIY project by PupStyle editor Carlene Mahanna). Their outfits were so awesome that the NY Daily News snapped their pics and declared their style on par with Lady Gaga. (High praise indeed!)
Super celebrity groomer Jorge Bendersky’s doggie Tito was in FULL effect and loving it!
A brilliant and super simple idea garnered this pup a place on the costume contest podium!
Stumpy, Stocky and Low to the Ground Sweeps up at Westminster. This year’s Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show was filled with excitement and controversy. For the first time the newly admitted breed of Dogue de Bordeaux was seen walking the green carpet in MSG. There was also some confusion and controversy over the disqualification of a Cairn Terrier just as it was about to be judged (it was later found out that the judge and the handler had worked together – therein disqualifying the dog due to a conflict of interest).
In the end the overall Best in Show award was taken home by “Stump” the Sussex Spaniel. At 10 years old Stump is the oldest winner of Best in Show in the 133 year history of the Westminster Dog Show.
After waddling his way to the Best in Show podium – it sounds like Stump will be getting some extra Valentine’s Day spoiling. We’d suggest his handler check out Dara’s Valentine’s Day Gift Guide for some ideas!

Pupstyle.com is proud to announce the finalists for this year’s PFW Lifestyle Innovation Award. Eight finalists were narrowed down from 35 entries in the featured category of “Pet Dinnerware”. Our own Pet Design Expert Dara Foster commented on being one of the first round judges – “This was a tough decision with so many strong entrants – but with an eye towards Innovative design I think we made the right choices.” The competition next moves to New York City with the finalists being displayed and judged at the upcoming Pet Fashion Week New York (Aug 23-24). “I think the PFW Lifestyle Innovation Award is a long overdue prescription for moving the pet industry forward. It raises the design bar – moving away from stainless steel bowls to functional works of art.” The finalists (in no particular order) include:
- Victor Lee of Alpha Paw
- Velissa Van Scoyoc for Vivid Product Design
- Jane Grant of HugX and Justin Magee & Stephen McGilloway of Bigsmall

The Official Video wrap up of all of the designers and styles seen on the runway. Pet Fashion Week 2007’s runway was a completely different and new event. Check out this years official runway recap video produced by the fine folks at Video Vampires. Keep an eye out for our own sunglasses-clad fashion editrix Dara Foster showing up in the video.
The web has been atwitter with buzz from Pet Fashion Week ’07. The Runway show coverage keeps on coming with the big boys (New York Magazine, Wall Street Journal online and others) showcasing their own coverage of this years PFW. Here is a wrap-up of the best coverage the web has to offer:
It’s a wrap! Pet Fashion Week 2007 went off without a hitch this year. As thousands of attendees were treated to the very best in dog luxury design and fashion. We were on the scene the whole weekend – searching through the trade show floor for the best of show, “quietly judging” the runway show through our sunglasses, having our minds blow by Sathit Suratphiphit’s incredible dog grooming talents and meeting tons of hot new designers, PupStyle fans, Maga-loggers and more. We got some incredible video footage from the runway show as well as some of the hype new products debuting at PFW. We also wanted to give a shout out to For the Dogs and Gino the Dog by Gaia & Gino for their generous assistance with our Runway display area. Be on the look out in the coming weeks as we start posting video highlights of this year’s show as well as adding runway photos to the LookBook. In the meantime check out Gotham Unleashed’s Pet Fashion Week photos from the Sunday afternoon runway show. This guy totally stole the show on both days rocking a dope coat from iDawg and somehow pulling off the pink wig with style (NOTE: I know I know we just eviscerated dog wigs last post but this dog took that Doggie Don’t and made it his own!). More photos, video, Do’s and Don’t from Pet Fashion Week 2007 coming soon!
