Once upon a time, dressing up your cat or dog in a Halloween costume was considered “wacky” and you were automatically put in the crazy pet lady/guy category by your family. Fast forward to Halloween season 2016 and it’s not only considered normal, but actually acceptable and eagerly anticipated by pet parents and retailers. In 2015, American’s spent $350 million on pet Halloween costumes. That’s $1 for every $3 spent on a kids costume according to the National Retail Federation. So what’s next? A sweater on a fish?

Major pet retailer PetSmart has been expanding their small pet costume selection catering to the demands of guinea pig parents who want to put a tutu on their rodent.
