Nothing Says Halloween Like a Hedgehog in a Sheep’s Costume

Once upon a time, dressing up your cat or dog in a Halloween costume was considered “wacky” and you were automatically put in the crazy pet lady/guy category by your family. Fast forward to Halloween season 2016 and it’s not only considered normal, but actually acceptable and eagerly anticipated by pet parents and retailers. In 2015, American’s spent $350 million on pet Halloween costumes. That’s $1 for every $3 spent on a kids costume according to the National Retail Federation. So what’s next? A sweater on a fish?

The small pet costume trend has been steadily growing over the past 3 years. Major pet retailer PetSmart has been expanding their small pet costume selection catering to the demands of guinea pig parents who want to put a tutu on their rodent. Etsy.com is a treasure trove of creative small pet costume designers offering everything from hand-made Yoda costumes for your bearded dragon to sweaters for chickens.

PupStyle Home: Wine Lovers Reclaimed Wine Barrel Dog Beds And Feeders

So what to do with that old wine barrel you picked up at a flea market years ago and it’s been collecting dust in the basement? Keep using it as an end table or flower pot? Nah,  Rock Creek Furniture Company at Etsy.com came up with a really smart DIY idea that you can try yourself or buy from them.

Beautifully , aged reclaimed wine barrels are turned into stylish dog beds and feeders that you can’t find at a mass retailer.  This Colorado based company uses barrels from reclaimed American or French oak which are carefully reinforced, sanded and and sprayed with a high-quality clear finish for a lasting product.

You can change the feeling of the bed easily by experimenting with different fabrics for the cushion. Plaids will give this a classic country look while bold modern prints make it edgy and cool.

A reversible cushion with fleece on one side is a great way to add warmth for winter.
